about

In August 2009, we made a trip down through New Mexico with our friends Gareth and Sarah. We stopped and walked around in Rinconada Canyon, looking at the petroglyphs. Gareth was wearing a red t-shirt and thought a large insect was hovering around him. It turned out to be a hummingbird. Melissa set us all straight. Days later, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, we picked up a pair of greeting cards—one said “Huckleberry,” the other said “Hummingbird.” These cards were posted above our synths for several years. Eventually, the song was written, and Melissa recounted the story for the recording.

lyrics

We were down in New Mexico
A red t-shirt
We were down in New Mexico
A red t-shirt

And hummingbirds seem to be attracted to the colour red
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird
And hummingbirds seem to be attracted to the colour red
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird

We were down in New Mexico
A red t-shirt
We were down in New Mexico
A red t-shirt

And hummingbirds seem to be attracted to the colour red
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird
And hummingbirds seem to be attracted to the colour red
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird

We were down in New Mexico
A red t-shirt
We were down in New Mexico
A red t-shirt

And hummingbirds seem to be attracted to the colour red
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird
And hummingbirds seem to be attracted to the colour red
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird
But it wasn't a bug that was a hummingbird don't swat at the hummingbird.

The music the duo write is primarily electronic, filled with raw analogue synths and otherworldly noises carried by melodic bass lines.
