about

When we were first performing this song live, we bookended it with samples of Angus Scrimm, the tall man from the Phantasm films, speaking about his role. It was fun, but the song was really about some weird dreams and nightmares we’d had. We distilled the dreams into one and wrote the words that Mark speaks aloud. The interlocking parts were put together to represent a deer being chased along the edge of a forest.

lyrics

You wake up as a deer
You're running away
Dashing in and out
All along the forest's edge

You wake up as a deer
You're running away
Trying to escape
Whatever it is that's chasing you

When I suddenly find myself surrounded
by about a dozen wolves
grey wolves and, uh, black wolves
all the sudden
one by one
thinking about my fate
all the sudden
one by one
individual wolves begin to drop dead
all around me in a circle
one by one.

The music the duo write is primarily electronic, filled with raw analogue synths and otherworldly noises carried by melodic bass lines.
